Australian Adventure

Well I'm headed to Townsville, Australia on June 29 for the summer to conduct science research at James Cook University. I will be studying bioluminescence in microorganisms. During this time I will take pictures along my journey that will hopefully be somewhat science related and have you, my students, answer a question about the picture. The first person who responds correctly to the question will receive a small Australian prize on my return. Good luck!!

Here are two questions to get you started. Lets see who the first person is to get both of them correct. Make sure to put you first name with your last name's initial at the end of the answer (example: Jose P.).

What does bioluminescence mean?
What is a microorganism?

Mr. Misner:)

  6. Elizabeth was the first to get the correct answer!!

Bioluminescence is when something living emits light. Fireflies are bioluminescent!

A microorganism is a living thing that can be seen through a microscope.

So I'll be studying very small oceanic organisms that emit light.

  10. First of all, I hope you have a safe trip. I also hope you have some fun down under. I must say that I am impressed with Elizabeth's answers and a little saddened by all the "You are the BEST teacher" comments. Oh well, at least I lost out to you, I think you're pretty cool too:o) Stacey

  11. Hey Mr. Misner, this is boris and your plants are doing wonderfully. They've stemed out a couple of smaller versions of themselves and I've been potting them. Have fun in Australia, oh and by the way adding onto what Brian said there are really small and deadly jellyfish there called E. congiri or something like that.

  12. Hey Mr. Misner, this is Boris and I just want to say your plants are doing great. They've even branched out a couple of smaller versions of themselves that I've planted into some of my pots. I would like to know if I can keep the smaller ones. As well as that, don't boast to your team of scientists or something like that about how everyone thinks your the best teacher. Also, adding onto what Brian said, there are incredibly small and deadly jellyfish in the water called E. ricongi.
